Frances made her first teddy bear about fifteen years ago. She had a long time desire to make a fur bear, so when she saw a bear fur collar and cuffs in an antique shop, she made her first bear. When the owner of the shop saw the bear, she wanted one made from a beaver skin that she had. Frances created a special bear for the antique shop owner and one teddy led to another. Now Frances makes bears from fine furs or treasured furs that family members wish to keep in the family. Frances' fabulous handmade bears were featured in The Complete Book of Teddy Bears by Joan Greene and Ted Menten., which introduces you to 100 of today's most accomplished bear makers. This book outlines the delightful story of how one of her teddys was taken to Russia by an exchange student and is now in the Pioneer Camp Museum in the former Soviet Union. This bear was an important means by which the American children and Russian children could communicate. Many people have been touched by these bears, some have turned into lasting friendships for Frances, and she counts this as one of her most satisfying accomplishments.
